Welcome to our links page. These are web sites we've tried, like, and at least occasionally use. Not much rhyme or reason, but we hope you'll find something you like!

New Discoveries.

These are sites we found recently. This list will change each time we update the site, and previous entries will migrate down into the main categories below. I guess. Depends whether I have time. This time, I checked each link and updated as necessary.

Cold War Service Certificates -- The words on this site say it better than I could: "The Secretary of Defense approved awarding Cold War Recognition Certificates to all members of the armed forces and qualified federal government civilian personnel who faithfully and honorably served the United States during the Cold War era, from Sept. 2, 1945, to Dec. 26, 1991"

Larry Boy -- The new on-line home of the green and purple suction-eared cucumber super-hero of Veggie Tales. View the trailer to his new video (in QuickTime format). (Caution--it crashed our Internet Explorer version 3...)

Apple Computer's Star Wars Gallery -- Movie trailers, commercials, and other video tidbits for the new Star Wars movie. Downloadable on-line. There's pro and con:
Con:
  • The files are HUGE and take a long time to download
  • You need QuickTime 3.0 or 4.0 to play them
  • The image dimensions are small
Pros:
  • They're free
  • QuickTime 4.0 is also free, and available at this site for both Windows and Mac
  • The image quality and sound quality are VERY good
Verdict: worth it if you're a real Star Wars fan, but not otherwise. If you don't see the link (always a risk because Apple often changes their content), try the Star Wars site.

PC Hell -- Dan's dad told us about this site. The premise is cute: we've all been to PC hell when our computers don't work right, so here's information, software, and links to help you avoid going there again. My opinion? Not a great site. Some good useful info, but not comprehensive. Seems like it's just starting out, and hopefully will get better and more complete over time. DOS & Windows info only--no Macintosh. The best part is the Ten Tips to keep your computer running smoothly, but even that's just copied from the next site on our list, which is much more thorough...

ZDNet -- The best site for info for Windows users. Ziff-Davis's ZDNet has everything you could ever want, including:
- links to major computer magazines (like PC Magazine and Family PC)
- news from the world of computing
- downloadable software and reviews
- help and troubleshooting info (including the Ten Tips mentioned above)
The site is a little overwhelming, but keep looking--you'll find it all here. Use their "Help" link instead of going to PC Hell.

The Ultimate Macintosh -- The best site for links to everything Macintosh. It claims to be the "biggest, ugliest, and most useful Macintosh site on the web." All my favorite Mac sites are listed here, and hundreds of others, indexed nicely with short descriptions.
